Civic Innovation to Support Civic Tech
ATLANTA –– The Center for Civic Innovation (CCI) is thrilled to announce a partnership with Shadow Ventures, an Atlanta-Based venture capital firm focused on investing in startups in underserved markets where strategic capital is scarce. This partnership is focused on pairing Atlanta-based civic ventures that use technology with industry leaders in technology and investing.
“With this partnership, we are going to be able to work closely with the team at CCI to provide resources to civic-focused technology ventures and support their work as vehicles for change,” Founder and CEO of Shadow Ventures, K.P. Reddy said. “Building a technology company is hard for anyone. Civic tech entrepreneurs have even greater barriers to access the resources they need to scale. We’ve long admired CCI’s work and hope this partnership extends the advantages we give our portfolio companies to CCI’s founders, whose businesses will disrupt the world for the better.”
In addition to a financial contribution to the Center for Civic Innovation to expand their office hours, lunch and learns, and mentoring services for program participants. Shadow Ventures and CCI will work together to provide intensive one-on-one advising sessions with tech experts to ensure early stage civic-tech ventures are supported as they continue to test, grow and scale their programs and products.
“When done right, technology can be an incredible tool to grow and scale interventions in the social sector. ” CCI Founder & Executive Director, Rohit Malhotra said. “This partnership with Shadow Ventures brings a level of expertise and guidance to the incredible people we work with every day that are doing the work. I think together, we can help two sectors that have felt like strangers better understand one another and work together to create the city we want to live in.”
The Center for Civic Innovation invests in outcome-driven and community-led ideas that create systems-level change. Launched in 2014, the focus of the Center for Civic Innovation remains to lead community-wide conversations on issues of inequality, to invest in entrepreneurial ideas in the social sector, and to strengthen civic engagement so people’s voices and ideas remain at the center of public decision-making. Over the past 3 years, we have invested over $1.5M of new capital into more than 80 entrepreneurial, community-led ideas.
