The Center for Civic Innovation is always looking for volunteers whose time and generosity make our work possible. We primarily look for volunteers in two areas: front desk and event support.
Front Desk Support
As a small nonprofit organization, we can always use help making our coworking space in South Downtown feel welcoming and warm and that people know where they need to go. Helping with our front desk might entail:
Directing visitors in our space to the right office
Helping CCI staff give tours of our space to potential coworkers or members
Being the point-person for room reservations in our space
Checking-in visitors when they arrive
And other duties as they arise.
Our office is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. We have need for assistance with our front desk throughout these hours for at least two hour shifts.
If you would like to volunteer for a coworking scholarship (the ability to work in our coworking space for free), you must be willing to commit to working at least 15 hours per month during our office hours in exchange for one comped general coworking pass for yourself.
If you are interested in volunteering at our front desk, please fill out this signup form, and a CCI staff member will follow up with you shortly.
The Center for Civic Innovation hosts many events each month, and we can always use help with setup, support during the event, and clean up. Our events include Leadership Breakfasts (7:00am until 9:30am), Lunch and Learns, and evening panels, so we have lots of opportunities and time slots to choose from. (We very rarely have weekend events.)
If you are interested in supporting our events, please fill out this volunteer form, and we’ll get back to you. Once we accept you as a volunteer, you’ll be added to our list of volunteers and will be emailed every time we have volunteer needs. Volunteer slots will be first come first serve.
Becoming an event volunteer entails:
Arriving on time for the shift you agree to work
Often being willing and able to move tables, chairs, or light boxes
Serving as an event support volunteer will get you one free admission to the event you are volunteering for. It does not include free coworking access or membership. If you are interested in access to our coworking program, please see the Front Desk support section above.
Do you offer any transportation subsidies or assistance for volunteers? Unfortunately, no, CCI is not able to assist with transportation costs for volunteers or validate volunteers’ parking.
Can I do my court-ordered community service with the Center for Civic Innovation? It depends. Email firstname.lastname@example.org, and we’ll discuss it with you.
Can my child do community service with the Center for Civic Innovation? It depends. Our volunteer needs are not really suitable for small (elementary or middle school children), but some of our opportunities may be suitable for high school students. Please email email@example.com to discuss.
Can I complete a large number of volunteer hours with y’all in a short period of time? It depends. We have a limited number of volunteer opportunities, so we won’t necessarily be able to accommodate your time frame, but we’ll try our best! The earlier you let us know about requirements, the more flexibility we’ll have to work with you.
Can my organization or business volunteer as a group with the Center for Civic Innovation? It depends, but we’d love to learn more! Fill out the volunteer form, and we’ll get back to you.
What if I want to help more substantially with your work? Consider applying for an internship with us. Our internships require a semester-long commitment, but allow you to dive deeper into one of our subject areas (including design, programming, communications, outreach, etc.). You do not have to be a student to apply.
