In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), I had the honor of presenting at the ISDA Atlanta Fight in Five speaker series. During Fight In Five, designers gathered at the People of Resource studio to hear from some of Atlanta’s most creative design leaders.
People of Resource have a great space and it made a great venue for the night's presentations. Each designer had five minutes to express what it means to stand up in the name of design and fight for what you believe.
My "Fight" presentation was inspired by a quote from Dr Seuss: "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?" I talked about how designers need to express their true selves in order to produce their best work. I believe it's your uniqueness as a designer that makes you special. I think that's the reason I feel so at home at the Center for Civic Innovation: my unique skills and personality are a great fit for an innovative nonprofit that uses out-of-the-box thinking to solve civic issues. I want all designers to fight to be who they truly are: special.
